  • Sitting here watching the parking lot of a store across the street

It’s 5:15 on a Friday night in America.
pick up trucks go in and out
and out of each one a solitary man appears,
    goes into the store alone
comes back out with a case of beer
    preparing for the weekend
    or just tonight

Another big truck and another man inside
    and then another
    and then another
and I wonder if they could,
if the world would allow them to,
    would they pull their resources
    huddle up
and maybe buy beer for all of them

    They could have a sleepover
and talk about their dreams, and complain about their work
and not have to spend a Friday night in America
    with their beer, alone
instead of with their beer and their besties
